2022 SPRING-SUMMER SEASON OVERVIEW
  • MONDO competitive boys teams will compete in local and regional tournaments and showcases. Upper level 17U teams may travel out of state in July.
24 Hour Fitness logo
WHAT to EXPECT at an EVALUATION/TRYOUTS
  • A line to get into the facility will be formed outside.
  • Players are labeled with name and grade, then photographed and tryouts are filmed.
  • Players will be put through a variety of competitive 1-on-1 to 5-on-5 games to gauge a player's level of play, athleticism, work ethic, attitude, commitment level, and IQ.
  • Verbal invitations are commonly made on-the-spot. A more formal invitation will be emailed to families that are chosen for a competitive team, typically within a few days after a tryout session concludes.
  • Players that don't make a competitive team will be offered skills training on a 1-on-1 basis, semi-private basis, or to join our group workouts held on Tues/Thurs evenings year-round that are 95% gameplay.
  • We provide a basketball skills development path for most any student-athlete.
TIPS to make the most of an EVALUATION/TRYOUTS
  • Attend all tryout sessions if possible
  • Bring your own ball and spill-proof water bottle.
  • Arrive early and greet the Coaches beforehand
  • Be social and vocal (there is no room for timidity and shyness in competitive basketball)
  • Listen and move with urgency (show that you want it)
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and BE COACHABLE
  • Commit to and play DEFENSE (don't be a lazy one dimensional player that only wants to score)
  • Have FUN!

TEAM COSTS
MONDO Athletics offers premium basketball training and strives to be fair at all times. We operate based on a monthly subscription model. Our research confirms that our costs are up to 60% less than other comparable clubs in Colorado! Dues each month for those that make a MONDO competitive team include the basics required to compete:
  1. Group Skills Training Sessions (practices) led by certified trainers
  2. 24-Hour Fitness super sport Membership (or you can use your own membership)
  3. Game Uniform (purchase to own, or you can rent one out for the season)
  4. League or tournaments that MONDO competitive teams compete in
The actual costs vary between teams and season-to-season.
What if My Student-Athlete Doesn't Make a Competitive Basketball Team?
If a player attends an open tryout session or is evaluated on a 1-on-1 basis, and does not receive an OFFICIAL INVITATION to join a MONDO competitive basketball team, PLEASE DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED.  Other training options will be offered, like 1-on-1 skills training and small group skills workouts.

Remember, while games are great at TESTING a player's skill and character,
skills and fundamentals training is how players make real gains.

We attended the spring tryouts back in March. Well organized, high intensity, but fun at the same time. Even though our son didn't make a team then, he was invited to participated in the drop-in skills clinics in the spring and summer to help develop his game. We've seen remarkable improvements, so hoping he makes a team this fall.

Our boys have been training with the club for a few seasons now as a supplement to their feeder team. We get compliments all the time for their fundamentals and understanding of the game, which we largely attribute to the Centennials coaches.

Our sons tried out for a 2016 summer team. It's refreshing to see a program with structure and knowledgeable coaches. We were invited to play, but our boys ended up focusing on another sport. We'll be back in the fall for sure.

Chose the 1on1 evaluation for my son who's a 5th grader. Coach Armando was compassionate and genuinely cares about teaching the game. My son loved the workout and asked for private coaching afterwards. Looking forward to team tryouts!

Greetings Lisa,

Great to hear Dylan's interested in playing with us again in the upcoming spring 2017 season. All returning cadets must tryout each season. There are a few reasons for this.

1) It holds players accountable so that they keep working on their game on their own time. Life lesson here is that nothing is guaranteed in life. Every position, now and in the work force in the future, has to be earned and retained.

2) It keeps things fair with new players interested in the Academy. One of our differentiators from other clubs is that we don't play favorites. Every kid deserves a fair shot at making a team each season.

3) It really helps us match up returning and new players to optimize team chemistry. This extends beyond the players and their abilities. It includes the families as well. It has to be a fit for everyone.

Hope this helps. Look forward to seeing Dylan at tryouts.

Coach Armando

Hi, we are late for tryouts due to just finding out about the league. Is there a way My son (8th grade) could come to practice and try out for any coaches that may have roster spots available? we are based out of Aurora.

Hello Dovaughn,

Even though our open TRYOUTS are over, we evaluate players year-round really. If a team is primarily what you're most interested in, you're welcome to come out our Tues or Thurs teams practice this week. Click the SCHEDULE link on the Academy website to view actual dates/times/locations.

Also keep in mind we have a Monday night DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE that runs through the end of May, Saturday morning jump shooting clinics in March, and a Spring Break Scrimmages Camp (games and nothing more).

We look forward to returning the the Centennials in the spring and our son will be at ALL tryouts. Stepped away last fall to another club closer to home, and realized "convenience" over "quality" was the wrong move 2 weeks into the start of that season. Trust us, we've been around, and Coach Carrillo runs a solid program!
